| | Mark 3:31-35 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you. And he answered them, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother."
I was thinking about this passage and about the two different ways you can look at it. Are we to interpret it as "You do the will of God, therefore you are a child of Him" or "You are a child of God, therefore you do His will."? Is salvation something we achieve by doing the will of God, or is it a wonderful gift from heaven that upon receiving we respond with gratefulness and enjoy the blessings that being a part of God's plan for His creations redemption brings? Often times I feel horrible for being such an ungrateful person. I end up just feeling guilty about how sinful and rebellious I am towards my Father in Heaven and praying for Him to fix me so I don't have to feel so bad. Only when I get over myself and listen to God's voice, and remember the love that's claimed me as a child, remember how IN love I am with my Savior and begin to see everything as God's creation that is to be loved and cared for (I know, crazy idea right?) Only when I am genuinely thankful for the gifts I have received do I begin to enjoy life and actually glorify God. This is all scattered, but I guess my point is that salvation isn't something you can earn or "feed" to yourself. It's something that we all freely receive from God. It's a wonderful experience when it does happen, makes me wonder why I continue to do the whole sinning thing. Anyway, salvation is a gift! Receive it, experience it and enjoy it! |
